At the moment, two classes of the CXE, the 2 wheels drive and the 4 wheels drive, will be competiting on the half-asphalte/half-gravel circuit of the GP3R. Moreover, the organizers are still working on the possibility of adding a class for the Side by Side (SbS) such as the ones that participated to the RallyCross format during the last two editions of the GP3R.
An impressive list of elite drivers such as Jean Sébastien Besner, Julien Pilon, Loël Levac, Frank Sprongl, Jean-Marc Alcaraz, Marc-Antoine Camirand, Simon Dubé and Chris Greenhouse from US have already express their desires to be part of the event.
If the CXE’cars are used to run in high-performance rally stages with studded tires on roads temporarily closed, at the GP3R, they will fight for victory in a sheer RallyCross format consisting of four qualified rounds of four laps followed by two semi-finals and one final of six laps each and all on Pirelli tires especially adapted to the RallyCross. As in the World Champioship, the pilots will be subject to the starts/stops in compact group up to six cars.
“This is a project that Éric T. and I have been working on for the past 3 years ever since the first edition of the RallyCross at the GP3R in 2014”, explain Dominic Fugère, general director of the GP3R. The ardent lovers of RallyCross who come to our event wish to see drivers from here and that is what we will offer them with the national classes of the CXE.
The popularity of the RallyCross has grown significantly for the past 3 years in America by introducing the discipline in Canada in 2014 and a section of the FIA Championship.
The CXE is already pruducing a national canadian rally championship sanctionned by the National Auto Sport Association (NASA RallySport). The RallyCross represent a natural way to progress for the growth of the CXE according to his series manager Éric Tremblay.
“I am very pleased to see the CXE work in concert with the GP3R”, has said Mr. Tremblay. As far as 2014, Mr. Fugère has seen the potentiel for our canadian elite in high-performance rally in a RallyCross format. The introduction of the RallyCross in the CXE goes hand in hand with our expansion plan and also maintain our leadership as far as rally products. This first portion opens the door to putting in place a Canadian Championship that will offer a complet calendar in a near future.
